Ransomware attacks occur when malicious software is installed on your computer and encrypts your data, making your files inaccessible. Fraudsters then demand a ransom to get your data back. Their goal is to get your money.

Fraudsters send phishing emails that include a Microsoft Word file (.doc or .rtf), a .pdf file, a .zip file or a link. When the user opens the file or link, the ransomware is installed, encrypting your computer data and locking the computer.
